The Chief of the National Resources Division is the leader of the National Resources Division, the domestic division of the Central Intelligence Agency. The position is "soft", in so far that it entails none of the risks of running a station abroad.
People
According to Techinquiry its chiefs include:
- Ralph F. Goff was previously chief of the CIA's National Resources Division
- Dave Pitts - In addition to his leadership of the CIA's South and Central Asia Mission Center, Dave Pitts was once chief of the Agency's National Resources Division.
- Elizabeth Kimber. Prior to leading the CIA's entire directorate of operations, Elizabeth Kimber was chief of the directorate's National Resources Division.
- Henry A. Crumpton was chief of the CIA's National Resources Division from August 2003 to June 2005.
- Mary Margaret Graham. Prior to becoming the CIA's counterintelligence chief under Porter Goss, Mary Margaret Graham was chief of the CIA's National Resources Division from 1999 to 2001. Graham was the Agency's New York station chief during the attacks of September 11, 2001.
- Richard Hollis Helms was once head of the CIA's National Resources division.
- Charles Tracy Barnes. As a delayed consequence of the failed April 1961 "Bay of Pigs" invasion of Cuba, C. Tracy Barnes became chief of the agency's newly created Domestic Operations Division -- which later folded into the National Resources Division -- with E. Howard Hunt as a subordinate.
- DeWitt Clinton Poole was head of the Foreign Nationalities Branch of the Office of Strategic Services from 1941 to 1945, where he led domestic recruitment of foreign intelligence sources, which later became the primary advertised mission of the CIA's National Resources Division.
Deputy Chiefs
- Gina Haspel. Before becoming CIA director, Gina Haspel was deputy chief of the National Resources Division circa the late summer of 2004 to 2005. Haspel was subsequently the CIA's New York station chief -- whose responsibilities include recruiting diplomats through the local United Nations office.
