Education
A native of upstate New York, Harkenrider is a graduate of the University of Rochester.
Career
Harkenrider is a career member of the US Foreign Service. He was previously Deputy Political Counselor at the US Embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan), where his work focused on the US-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue, Afghanistan policy, and regional peace and stability.
He was in Washington, in the Office of the US Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, and twice in Afghanistan, in US Embassy Kabul’s Political-Military Affairs office, and as the State Department representative on the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghazni Province. He has also completed diplomatic assignments in Niger and India.
He enjoys hiking and biking and is fluent in French and Dari. He is married to Yukari Harkenrider, a former UN official originally from Tokyo, Japan.[1]
In September 2019 he was a Japanese Language Student at the U.S. Department of State.[2]
From September 2016 until November 2019 he was Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy London
Exposure
Harkenrider's name was on a list of emails posted online by the group Anonymous in November 2018, from the Integrity Initiative. Craig Murray wrote in response "I do not know if Harkenrider is CIA but it seems highly likely."[3]
