Thomas Harold Massie is an American politician who refused to get in contact with donors, even for substantial contributions. AIPAC succeeded in ousting in 2026 in what became the most expensive U.S. House primary in American history, with estimates in the tens of millions in ad spending.

His wife Rhonda died suddenly in June 2024.

Activities

Massie has been staunchly publicly against foreign aid to Israel and Ukraine.

Invoking the WPA

On 17 June 2025, Massie announced he intends to introduce a War Powers Act bill to prohibit US military involvement in the Israel-Iran war:

"This is not our war. But if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution.

"I'm introducing a bipartisan War Powers Resolution tomorrow to prohibit our involvement.

"I invite all members of Congress to co-sponsor this resolution."

Being targeted by AIPAC

Massie is a main target of campaign attacks by AIPAC.

“"Everybody but me has an AIPAC person. It's like your babysitter, your AIPAC babysitter, who's always talking to you for AIPAC." He added that these "babysitters" tend to be from the representative's district, but they're firmly part of AIPAC.”

Querying Covid side effects

In June 2024, Massie revealed that 3 of the top FDA vaccine experts were fired after requesting more time to study side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine in children and young adults, so that the Biden Administration could to push the shots through faster and mandate them.

2026 congressional district election

A small congressional district in flyover country being the "most consequential Republican primary for Israel" in 2026.

TV Ads for Gallrein were played at high volume in Kentucky, some with realistic AI generated video. This ad wanted to give the impression that Massie is in a personal relationship with AOC and Ilhan Omar, which it argued in turn is reflected in his voting record. Massie said on NBC News Meet the press that this video was very effective on the boomers, convincing people this was real footage.

Massie was unseated by Ed Gallrein, who reportedly had no good report with people during his campaign, refused to answer questions in detail and his staff excluded people from events if they were under suspicion to be asking critical questions. TV adds favoring Gallrein were played during every commercial brake, the ratio about 5 to 1 favoring him.

There were some early questions about the outcome, Massie had massively outraised Gallrein in small dollar donations, and Gallrein was able to get more votes for him as the challenging candidates of the three preceding elections combined.
