Robotization is the process of introducing robotics in production, services, administration and military.[1]
Terminology
The term "robot" was borrowed from Czech "robot", from "robota" ("drudgery, servitude"). Coined in the 1920 science-fiction play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Karel Čapek.[2][3]
Noun:
- (chiefly science fiction) An intelligent mechanical being designed to look like a human or other creature, and usually made from metal.
- A machine built to carry out some complex task or group of tasks by physically moving, especially one which can be programmed.
- (figuratively) A person who does not seem to have any emotions or individuality.
Robot / Robotics
A robot is a machine—especially one programmable by a computer—capable of carrying out a complex series of physical actions automatically. A robot may be semi-autonomous, guided by external control device(s) - or autonomous, with the internally embedded self-control. Robots may be anthropomorphically constructed to resemble the human form, but most robots are task-performing machines, designed with an emphasis on stark functionality, rather than expressive aesthetics.[4]
Robotics is the interdisciplinary study and practice of the design, construction, operation, and use of robots.[5] Within mechanical engineering, robotics is the design and construction of the physical structures of robots, while in computer science, robotics focuses on robotic automation algorithms.[6]
Uses
Douglas Rushkoff learned that billionaires wanted to secure their doomsday bunkers with robots, if the technology could be developed in time (among other options).[10]
