Robert Clayton Ames was a CIA spook who was Chief of Station in several countries, before being killed in the 1983 United States embassy bombing in Beirut.
Activities
Established the first US backchannel diplomatic channel to PLO, to great opposition from Israel.
He died in the 1983 United States embassy bombing in Beirut, officially blamed on either on either the Islamic Jihad Organization or Hezbollah.
