CIA spook active in Latin American counterinsurgency

Martin C. Hawkins III was a CIA spook active in counterinsurgency,[1] which normally involves training local police and military forces in torture, death squad operations, terrorizing civilians and similar tactics.
Education
At the outbreak of the Korean War he joined the Army, serving as an Ordnance Warrant Officer, responsible for explosive ordnance disposal. After the war, he completed his studies at the University of Arizona, where he took a degree in Political Science.[1]
Career
After graduation in 1958, and at the height of the Cold War, he was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency, and began his career as a clandestine intelligence officer. During his twenty two year career, he did tours in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Uruguay, and Vietnam.He received several awards, including the Medal of Merit and the Intelligence Star,, the latter was earned for counterinsurgency operations involving "grave personal risk," while active in Guatemala.[1]
He retired from the CIA in 1980 after serving as Chief of Station in Bogotá, Colombia. Following retirement, he worked as an Agency mercenary in El Salvador, supporting operations against the Sandinista government in Nicaragua.[1]
