John Healey is a British Labour Party politician who was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer by PM Andy Burnham on 20 July 2026.[1]
Healey had previously been Secretary of State for Defence from July 2024 to June 2026.[2] He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Rawmarsh and Conisbrough, formerly Wentworth and Wentworth and Dearne, since 1997.
He held various junior ministerial positions under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown from 2001 to 2010.
UK spy flights
On 11 June 2026, the day that John Healey resigned as Defence Secretary, Declassified UK posted on X:
- Defence Secretary Healey authorised hundreds of UK spy flights for Israeli intelligence during a genocide.
- He was never seriously questioned on this let alone held to account, and now freely leaves office.
- The real issue here is our governance: one national media won’t tell.[3]
