Johannes Carsten Green was CEO of Privatbanken and leader of the Danish Bank Society (Danske Bankers Fellesrepresentasjon) 1954-1969, when he attended the 1969 Bilderberg meeting.[1][2]
Background
His parents were editor, later National Bank Director H. Green (1875-1931) and Johanne Frederikke Hall Nielsen (1876-1960).
Education
Green graduated from Fredensborg high school in 1922. In 1924 he joined Barclay's Bank in London, and took a law degree in 1928.
Career
In the same year he was hired as an assistant in Handelsbanken, but maintained alongside a proxy position as a lawyer. It was the then Director of Privatbanken, Poul Andersen (1889-1966) who got Green to finally decide on banking by drawing him in for a career in his bank. He became a full-time member of Privatbanken in 1929, office manager in 1936, deputy director in 1940, deputy director in 1950, and finally succeeded Poul Andersen as one of three equal directors in 1953.[3]
Privatbanken was at that time considered the bank of the great Copenhagen companies. During Green's time, the bank progressed towards a much broader popular base, just as the bank has become nationwide through a number of mergers.[3]
Through his editorial work at the stock exchange handbook Green's danske Fonds og Aktier, he developed a close knowledge of a wide range of business, both companies and individuals, and he had the opportunity to develop his undoubted journalistic ability. He has always had a special relationship with the press, emphasizing that it should have as much and as exact information as possible. [3]
He resigned from his position at Privatbanken as early as 1970, but was active in business throughout the 1970s.[3]
Among his many positions, international and national, one of the most important was the chairmanship of Danske Bank's joint representation in two periods, 1955-58 and 1964-67.[3]
