The Italian deep state, post-WW II, centered on the Propaganda Due masonic lodge which used Operation Gladio, run through NATO. It was heavily influenced by the CIA and MI6.

The Italian Deep state, after 1945, centered on Propaganda Due (P-2), a masonic lodge run by Licio Gelli set up at the end of WWII under the rubric of Operation Gladio. Oswald LeWinter summarised it as a "wholly owned subsidiary of the company [i.e. the CIA] in Italy". Gladio was used so widely to carry out false flag bombings, kidnappings and assassinations that it was dramatically exposed in the 1980s, eventually leading to the exposure of its existence across the continent.

Organisation

Italian deep politician, Licio Gelli, ran P-2 for many years. In 1996 Gianfranco Piazzési wrote Caverna dei sette ladri a biography and exposure of Gelli. The book tells how Gelli got his hands on parts of the Yugoslav gold reserve during World War 2, and how this treasure was later used to fund deep state activities after the war.

Activities

The Italian deep state used a range of tactics to prevent the electoral success of the Italian left, particularly of the Italian communist party. These included so many false flag attacks by Operation Gladio in the 1960s and 1970s that the operation was eventually discovered and exposed in the 1980s by judge Felice Casson.

WW2

Licio Gelli

Licio Gelli "worked for SIM, the Military Intelligence Services, during the war [WW2]", stated Vincenzo Vinciguerra, and "went on to play in the big dirty game of Italian espionage. So his career developed within the framework of the secret services." He started the P-2 masonic lodge in Italy, which was heavily involved in Operation Gladio. In this capacity, he reported to Umberto Ortolani.

Post WW2

The Italian national election of 1948 was victim of one of the first CIA subversion campaigns. The CIA poured millions of dollars into propaganda and the "right wing" parties, especially the Christian Democracy Party, an operation in which CIA deep state actor Jim Angleton played a central part. This funding of right wing and other non-communist parties continued up through the 1980s.

1950s

Five Italians attended the first Bilderberg in 1954, all of whom attended subsequent Bilderberg meetings. Agnelli family heir Gianni Agnelli attended the 1957 October Bilderberg; he later joined the Advisory committee and 36 more Bilderbergs.

1960s

Assassination of Enrico Mattei

Enrico Mattei was a maverick CEO of the Italian oil and gas company Eni. He had broken out of the grasp of the oil cartel the Seven Sisters (a phrase he coined) and offered better extraction deals to Middle Eastern oil suppliers. He appeared to be on the cusp of creating an independent Italian industrial policy, but died in a suspicious plane crash in 1962.

Years of Lead

The English phrase "Strategy of Tension" is a direct translation of the Italian. This strategy was carried out during the "Years of Lead", which saw a wave of bombings and assassinations. Attributed to "communist terrorists" such as the Brigade Rossi, it was actually carried out by members of Operation Gladio. In 1978, the Brigade Rossi kidnapped Aldo Moro, Italian PM 1974-1976 and held him for 55 days. His successor as PM, Giulio Andreotti, refused any negotiation with his captors, who killed Moro after 55 days of imprisonment.

1980s

The 1980s saw a dramatic exposure of the importance of the P2 masonic lodge to the Italian deep state, and of Operation Gladio.

Itavia Flight 870

On 27 June 1980, Itavia Flight 870 crashed into the Tyrrhenian Sea between the islands of Ponza and Ustica, killing all 81 people on board. This suspicious plane crash was the subject of complex legal action. Over the next 15 years, several sudden deaths of people involved in the case suggest that influential forces were trying to cover up what really happened.

Exposure of Operation Gladio

In 1984 Felice Casson, an Italian judge, reopened the 1972 case of a car bomb in Peteano and uncovered a series of anomalies in the original investigation. This lead to the exposure of the European wide stay behind network, which was given the name "Gladio" after the name of the Italian group. The PM, Giulio Andreotti, admitted the existence of the group.^[When?]

1990s

Mani Pulite

The Mani Pulite anti-corruption drive in the early 1990s was the CIA's revenge on Italy's political caste for being to soft on Libya, especially during the Sigonella Hostage Standoff, showing too much foreign policy independence in general, defying their attempts at blackmail and talking too freely. Recordings of Italian politicians' substantial corruption were leaked to the prosecution by anonymous sources. This leading to convictions against many politicians, including former PMs Giulio Andreotti and Bettino Craxi.

2010s

Mario Monti in 2011

Mario Monti, an Italian deep state operative was made Prime Minister of Italy in November 2011, then a 24 time Bilderberg visitor. A Bilderberg Steering committee member, Monti has a lot of spooky connections, and in 2020 co-signed the infamous Uniting Behind A People's Vaccine Against COVID-19. He kicked the Bilderberg habit in 2015, only to relapse in 2024.

Franco Bernabè, a JP Morgan Chase Italian banker and manager, was on the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg from 2012-2015.

2020s

The Italian government pushed the SDS COVID event.

Exposure

In 1981 the Italian Prime Minister Arnaldo Forlani and his coalition cabinet resigned after revelations about P2, which was closed. Operation Gladio was dramatically exposed by the Prime Minister of Italy, Giulio Andreotti, following investigations carried out by Felice Casson.
