Heidi August is a US spook who was CIA Chief of Station in several countries, and was later promoted to Chief of South Asia Operations, and Chief of Operations of the Counterterrorism Center.
Education
She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder.[1]
Career
She started in the CIA in 1968, as a filing clerk. She was sent to the CIA station in Libya, then Cambodia and Bonn, Germany.[1][2]Her first case officer training happened in Helsinki, Finland, followed by training at the Farm.
She became a case officer in the late 1970s, in a male-dominated Directorate of Operations. She was posted to the UN in Geneva, where she was set to recruiting foreign agents.
In 1985 she inaugurated the CIA station in Valetta, Malta, as Chief of Station, and one of the CIA's first women Chief of Station.
She was Deputy Chief in New Delhi, India 1993-1996. A tradcraft slip-up of hers might have helped Indian intelligence discover a CIA agent in their midst.[3]
She then was promoted to Chief of South Asia Operations, and Chief of Operations of the Counterterrorism Center.[4]
At some time in her career, she inaugurated the Dublin Station, as Chief of Station.[5]
She volunteered for work in Iraq, presumably after the 2003 invasion.[4]
She retired in 2003 or 2004.[5]
