Frederick W. Rustmann, Jr. was a CIA spook.

Career

He spent twenty-four years in the CIA's Clandestine Service, operating in nine countries, in places such as Vietnam, Paris, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Thailand, Ethiopia, twice as a Chief of Station. His last post was Cypress, the headquarters of CIA counter-terrorism operations.

He retired from the agency in 1990.

He was stationed in Thailand in the early 1980s, at a time when the CIA was supporting the Khmer Rouge guerillas in their border bases, attempting to recapture Cambodia.

He was Chief of Station in Ethiopia in the mid 1980s, at least 1985.

Later activites

He set up CTC International Group, a West Palm Beach, Florida, firm staffed primarily by former CIA officers that provides business intelligence for the legal and corporate communities, to conduct "undercover interviews with unsuspecting employees and dig through their garbage." Because it's illegal in the United States to trespass in order to retrieve trash, Rustmann says he often gets cleaning crews to sell him the garbage they collect.

He was an active member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers.

After retirement, he wrote three novels loosely based on his CIA experiences.

In 2016 he called for "increased security tactics" at US airports.
