Soon after 9-11[When?], as EPA Administrator, Christine Todd Whitman stated that the air quality was not dangerous. As a result, many people failed to take sufficient protective measures when assisting in the response to 9/11. In 2016, she admitted for the first time she was wrong, stating "I’m sorry. We did the very best we could... with the knowledge we had".[1]
