The 2025 Bondi Beach Massacre occurred on 14 December 2025 at Archer Park beside Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. It took place during a Hanukkah celebration hosted by the Chabad of Bondi in which a thousand people were in attendance. Police declared it a "terrorist" incident, and numerous world leaders, news outlets and Australian authorities described it as antisemitic.

Casualties
Sixteen people were killed, including a child and one of the two perpetrators, with the second shooter in custody. An unarmed bystander, Ahmed al-Ahmed, intervened and disarmed one of the gunmen.[1] Police said the alleged gunmen were Sajid Akram, 50, and his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram. Forty-two people, including at least two police officers, were injured and taken to various hospitals. The New South Wales Police Force responded to the incident, and police later found and removed a suspected homemade bomb from a car belonging to one of the shooters.
Deliberate attack on Jewish people
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it was a deliberate attack on Jewish people during the first day of Hanukkah.
It is the deadliest mass shooting in Australia since the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996, and the deadliest terror incident in Australian history. Australia has some of the strictest gun laws in the world, partly as a result of the Port Arthur massacre.[2]
Problems with official narrative
According to New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, Naveed and Sajid had six firearms licensed to them.[3] This is despite Australia having restrictive gun laws and the spy agency ASIO having Akram under investigation for a period of six months in 2019 for "having close ties to a Sydney-based Islamic State (IS) terrorism cell".[4]
Reactions
Jonathan Cook wrote that the Israel lobby and the establishment media were "milking the Bondi Beach attack to silence critics of Israel's genocide."[5] Cook also wrote that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, is "blaming Australia for fuelling 'antisemitism' by recognising Palestine - and mainstream media are all too keen to air his views."[6]
Australian PM Albanese rejected claims made by his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu that the Bondi Beach massacre was fuelled by antisemitism stemming from Australian recognition of a Palestinian state.[7]
False flag?
George Galloway posited the possibility that the 2025 Bondi Beach Massacre was a false flag operation organised by Israel.[8]
