Willem Leonard Brugsma was a Dutch journalist. He worked mainly under the name W. L. Brugsma.[1] He attended the 1970 Bilderberg meeting.
World War 2
During the Second World War, Brugsma was in the resistance. He was arrested in Paris. He survived a number of concentration camps, including Neuengamme, Natzweiler-Struthof and Dachau.[2]
Career
In 1946 he started as a journalist at the Haarlemsche Courant and in 1954 he moved to the Grote Provinciale Dagbladen (GPD). In 1965 he became deputy editor-in-chief at the Haagsche Courant and a year later he was appointed editor-in-chief of the weekly Haagsche Post, which he would remain until 1975. Following this, he moved to television, becoming known nationally as "W. L. Brugsma". In 1976 he became presenter and commentator of the current affairs section "behind the news" (VARA). From October 1977 to September 1979 he was central presenter of VARA-Visie alternating with Koos Postema. From 1983 to 1986 he presented a discussion program.
In 1991, Brugsma made an interview for television with Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.
He died at the age of 75 and was buried at Den en Rust in Bilthoven. Prince Claus attended the funeral.

Brugsma wrote several books, including about Europe.
