A 2012 brochure said that He is one of the founding fathers and a permanent member and has not missed a World Economic Forum (WEF) in three decades.

In December 2013, Bettermann was involved in Mikhail Khodorkovsky's quick exit opportunity from Russia, by providing a company airplane, which, according to newspaper reports, Hans-Dietrich Genscher had asked him for.
