Bunkers for the super rich to sit out Armageddon.

Bunkers, doomsday bunkers, or survival bunkers are subterranean structures which the super-rich are building for themselves in case of emergency. These are often situated in remote locations, particularly often in New Zealand. The trend has been reported on by the commercially-controlled media at length since the 2010s. Douglas Rushkoff writing for The Guardian explains that secure locations and prepping are also a high priority for the: "upper echelon of the hedge fund world". He was invited to a private event at which he was asked about locations, related details and how to keep the security forces in check, or if it is thinkable that robots could replace them if the technology will develop fast enough.

"Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn, has talked about "apocalypse insurance". This is something about half of the super-wealthy have, he has previously claimed, with New Zealand a popular destination for homes".

"Mark Zuckerberg’s Koolau Ranch in Kauai, Hawaii, has become a focal point of intrigue due to its extensive underground shelter, often referred to as a "doomsday bunker." Spanning approximately 5,000 square feet, this subterranean facility is designed to be self-sufficient,"

Companies like Atlas Survival Shelters, Vivos, SAFE, Survival Condo and others are offering to construct these shelters for solvent customers.

Examples

• Mark Zuckerberg is building his "Koolau Ranch" on Hawaii, with a 5,000-square-foot underground shelter, which he insists is not a "doomsday bunker";

• British businessman Joe Lewis is reportedly building a 4,000 m², multi level bunker in Patagonia, where he created what has been called a "de facto independent state";

• Jared Kushner in 2026 has secured the rights to develop a luxury resort on the Albanian island of Sazan, the island was a military stronghold under different administrations during the cold war and is therefore heavily fortified along with an unknown number of underground structures;
