The conscientious objection is the refusal to serve in the military when conscripted.[1][2] While it is possible to send the objection in before being ordered into the armed service and there are established procedures in the administrations to have it processed, it might be much more difficult to get the objection through when one already is in, especially at a time when a war is about to happen.

In WW2, the (LIHOP?) Pearl Harbor attack and subsequent war propaganda created widespread support for the US entry into WW2 and many people volunteered to fight in the US military. However, the Tonkin Gulf event failed to do so to the same extent, and so conscription was used, leading to widespread support for conscientious objection.
The reality may look very different under a mass surveillance regime, with very recent legislative changes, the building of automatic draft registration lists (a system set to be tested in August 2026 [3]) and ICE as a possible enforcement arm this time around.[4] Joseph Jordan also speculates that the new system may use forced conscription modeled on what is happening in Ukraine along with the use of Palantir software,[5] Palantir itself having recently made it's support for a draft in the US publicly known.[6]
