Carl Edward Gebhardt was a senior CIA officer who was Chief of Station in several countries.[1]
Education
After graduation he received a commission as an officer in the United States Navy and was a mine warfare specialist aboard the Ostrich, a Charleston-based minesweeper for four years. He also was an instructor to senior foreign naval officers in Yorktown, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina.[2]
Career
In 1961 he moved with his wife and children to Hilton Head Island as vice president of the Atlantis Development Company that built, owned and operated the Adventure Inn, the first hotel on Hilton Head Island. [2]
He officially started working for the Central Intelligence Agency in 1966. Over the ensuing twenty-six years he had a variety of positions in Washington, D.C. and abroad including Mexico City. He was Chief of Station in Warsaw, Poland, unknown function in Bangkok, Thailand, and finally Chief in both Jakarta, Indonesia and finally Moscow, USSR. He retired in 1992 as a member of the Senior Intelligence Service. [2]
