The Iran–Israel war, also known as the Twelve-Day War, was an armed conflict in the Middle East. The war began with Israeli surprise attacks on key military and nuclear facilities in Iran,[1][2] assassination of prominent military leaders, nuclear scientists,[3] and politicians,[4][5][6] and damaged or destroyed air defenses.[7] Iran retaliated with hundreds of ballistic missiles and suicide drones.[8][9][10]
According to Trita Parsi, Israel went for a decapitation strike and in his estimate, by 25 July 2025 had spent up to 80% or more of its assets in the country.[11]
The hostilities were continued in operation Epic Fury in 2026.
